Behind the Camera

I'm a custom portrait photographer located in middle Tennessee. I believe that your children's photos should reflect who they really are. You should look at their portraits and recognize the laughs, smiles, and expressions that make them unique...not posed fake smiles in front of generic backdrops. I'm a mommy too, so I understand how fleeting these moments are and how important a photographed memory truly is. Photography is more than a job to me. It's a passion. I strive to create timeless pieces of art that will bring joy to my clients for years to come.

My Motivation
Nothing is more important to me than my family. My husband truly is my best friend. I believe a strong marriage requires loads of laughter, so we strive to laugh together every day. My son, Micah, nearly six (where does the time go!?),  is the light of my life. He’s a total drama queen and way too smart for his own good, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! And then there is Penelope, my sweet baby girl…who should be making her debut any day now.

My Story
My passion for photography started at a young age, but really received more serious focus upon the arrival of my son six years ago. As a single mom, I simply didn’t have the time or resources to make formal art training a reality. So I soaked up everything I could from alternative sources, but nothing could have taught me more than the experience I gleamed from my real live models. Over the years, I focused on establishing my photographic style and nurturing my natural talent. It was a priceless journey of which I have enjoyed every moment. Finally, I got up the nerve to leave my job at a high stress law firm to make my dream a reality…and so B. Burkey Photography was born.

My Style
My style is fresh, modern, and colorful. My photography is real life…real smiles, real laughs, real tears.  If you are looking for posed studio shots, I’m not your gal. I work on location in a format that makes my clients comfortable. I give kiddos ample time for play and snacks, so that the photos don’t feel rushed. I spend time getting to know my teens-their passions and stories- so that I can capture who they really are on camera. Overall, I want your photos to feel simple, free, and fun.
